Frances Alÿs

The practice and projects of Frances Alÿs have been a major inspiration for Wanderings. His interests in social practice, urbanity, repetition, individual action and his use of ‘paseos’ to ‘resist the subjection of common space’ (Basualdo 1999) resonate with the intentions of this project.

I looked in particular at projects that used the act of ‘paseos’ and the medium of paint including Fitzroy Square. London (2004), Painting/ Retoque. Paraíso, Panamá (2008) ,The Green Line. Jerusalem (2004) and Paradox of Praxis 1 (Sometimes Making Something Leads to Nothing), Mexico City (1997). Below is a link to the artists website.
